Mrs Rose welcomes all BPS families to the 2019 academic year

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year! Welcome back to all families. I hope you enjoyed a restful and relaxing school holiday break.

It was wonderful seeing the happy faces of the children in Year 1 to 6 as they caught up with their friends and teachers today. We also welcomed 58 new students into school, which of course included our Year 5 Opportunity Class students. Next Tuesday we welcome 113 new Kindergarten students and their families. Entering school for the first time is a memorable milestone and it is a privilege and a joy to take part in this transition.

I warmly welcome all our new families to Beecroft Public School. We hope that you enjoy a long and happy association with our school.

Beecroft Public School also welcomes many new permanent staff members. Congratulations on your successful appointments: Mrs Ellen Randall as Assistant Principal, Mrs Jessica Robinson, Miss Polly Hogarth, Mrs Lindsay Croom and Mrs Kirsty Logan. Each of these teachers brings their own unique talents and passions to Beecroft Public School. We are thrilled to welcome each of these staff members to our outstanding school.

Welcome back from maternity leave Mrs Sophie Wilkins and Mrs Lisa Reid. We also welcome new teachers who will be covering teacher positions for 2019. Welcome Mr Tom Blackett, Miss Petra Raic, Mr Peter Blair and Mr Caetano Lima to the Beecroft Public School teaching team.

2019 Classes

This year student numbers have fallen in a way that has allowed us to form classes from day one. The classes and their teachers are listed below. While we have started our 2019 classes, please be aware that any unexpected enrolments could make it necessary to adjust class structures.

Teachers spent many hours in term 4 last year forming classes. Teachers formed classes with consideration of student needs, including learning, physical, social and emotional needs along with group dynamics. Please speak positively with your children about their new classes. We understand that while most children are excited for the year ahead some children take extra time to settle in. Please speak to your child’s teacher if there is any information that could assist us make the transition successful.

A list of 2019 teachers and classes and a school class map is available for your information.

Kindergarten 2019

Our Kindergarten staff will be getting to know our new kindy students as they conduct Best Start interviews this week. Kindergarten students will start “big school” on Tuesday 5 February 2019 and we look forward to seeing them with their neat hair styles, big smiles and perhaps slightly over-sized uniforms.

Talking to your Child’s Teacher

At Beecroft PS we encourage you to speak to your child’s teacher if you have any concerns, questions or information that could help your child’s teacher teach your child. Small problems can become big problems if they are not dealt with promptly. If you have a quick concern you can meet with your child’s teacher before 9:25a.m. or after 3:25p.m. or by leaving a voice mail for your child’s class teacher by phoning the school office. Parents wishing for a longer meeting can make a time with the teacher that suits you both. If you feel you need additional support you can also talk to the stage supervisor. Education works best when parents, carers and the school community work together.

Every staff member at Beecroft PS is happy to help parents. If you require the support of the stage supervisor the appropriate executive is as follows: Early Stage 1: Mrs Kim Walsh, Stage 1: Mrs Kay O’Brien, Stage 2: Mrs Joanne Justic and Stage 3: Mrs Ellen Randall. Deputy Principals, Mrs Robbins will oversee K-2 and Ms Karan McDonnell will oversee 3-6.

Please allow teachers and students the opportunity to settle in for the first couple of weeks for less-urgent matters before organising a formal meeting.

Medications

Parents please remember to send in to the Front Office all medications and Epipens that were returned to you before the holidays. It is very important to ensure all medications are in date and have not expired. In addition, please ensure the office has the latest information regarding your child’s health and that the school has any updated medical and asthma plans. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

I look forward to seeing many of you as we settle back into another exceptional year of learning at Beecroft Public School.

Welcome back.

Tanya Rose
